A Challenge for Decarbonization

Decarbonizing the hard-to-abate sectors

In questo numero

To reduce the carbon footprint of the hard-to-abate sectors that contribute to 75 percent of industrial emissions, efficiency, alternative technologies, and effective emissions markets are needed. A global approach that balances economic development and environmental sustainability will be crucial. The IEA identifies carbon capture, storage, and utilization (CCUS) processes as a key tool for achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Decarbonization is achieved through technology and not ideology: reducing emissions at the source is not enough; strong political and financial support is also needed to scale these solutions and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
